Jodo

Jodo is the ‘way of the staff’, a traditional martial art of Japan based on the principles of self defence.

The Jo is a round stick made of oak, 128cms in length and 2.4cms in diameter. A Jo can be utilized in the same way as a variety of weapons such as the Yari (spear), the Naginata (halberd) or the sword once it is brought into action. Jodo techniques include thrusting, parrying, and striking, and the art is noted for its equal handling of the weapon on either side of the body.

Jodo teaches you how to suppress your enemy’s offence and spirit and give him a lesson without inflicting a wound. Jodo is an excellent art for cultivating your mind, body and spirit. As Jodo techniques are performed against a bokken (wooden sword), practitioners also gain a firm understanding of sword techniques.
