Perth Martial Arts Instructors are well versed in all methods of submission grappling, including traditional & modern Jiu jitsu. Our classes cover striking defence, fighting in the clinch, grip fighting, sweeps, trips, take-downs, throws, chokes, locks, holds, & more. Perth Martial Arts teaches the best standing and ground-based chokes, joint locks, leg locks, ankle locks, knee bars, neck cranks, shoulder locks, arm bars, finger locks, clinching, holds, pins, takedowns, throws, restraints, and general grappling technique from martial arts like BJJ (Brazilian jiu-jitsu), Japanese Ju jitsu, Judo, Aikido, Aiki-Jujitsu, Sambo, Shootfighting, free style wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, Olympic wrestling, in a safe and supportive environment. Our classes in grappling are designed to enhance a students grappling ability alone or in conjunction with other martial arts methods, including Striking Arts and the combat sport of MMA.

Jiu Jitsu

Jiu jitsu is considered one of the most complete martial art methods ever devised and is a core pillar of Perth Martial Arts Academy’s extensive martial arts development program. Students wishing to be promoted through a belt grading system in the grappling arts are advised to particpate in the Perth Martial Arts Jiu Jitsu training program. This program will cover the essentials required for promotion and ranking in a recognised martial arts system that has foundations and lineage back to very early methods of traditional Jiujitsu.

Jiu Jitsu is one of the foundation arts and prerequisites necessary for an students to compete safely in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) competitions. Competitors who do not have Jiu Jitsu skills will find themselves struggling to cope with many of the MMA competition scenarios and the risk of injury will be greater. Whether your intention is self defence, personal development, or competition, a student should seriously consider training in Jiu Jitsu.

Perth Martial Arts Academy Jiu jitsu students learn a myriad of techniques useful for self-defence. These include, various joint locks (wrist, elbow, neck, ankle, knee locks), clinch fighting, grips, restraints, chokes, throws, take-downs, grappling, sweeps, trips, ground-fighting, wrestling, and nerve pressure point strikes against a wide range of common assaults – armed, unarmed, and multiple attackers.

The methods of Jiu-Jitsu at Perth Martial Arts Academy are suited to any body type, size, age, or gender as force is not emphasised in the initial stages of training. Instead, students are encouraged to employ principles of unbalancing, leverage, timing, correct distancing, posture, pressure, centre of gravity, and exploiting the opponent’s weaknesses. In fact, so broad is our experience with different methods and attributes of Jiu-jitsu, our instructors can readily tailor Jiu-jitsu training to match anyone’s ability or inclination. Jiu-jitsu translates to Jiu (Ju) ‘gentle, soft, supple, flexible, pliable, or yielding’ and ‘jutsu’ means ‘art’ or ‘technique’. Jiu-jistu is often seen spelt as Jiu-Jitsu, Jujutsu, and Jujitsu. No matter the spelling, they are principally the same art. Some confuse the idea of soft or yielding as being potentially weak. However, Jiu-jitsu is far from weak as techniques have a natural strength based on the correct application of anatomical understanding and physics. Furthermore, through the use of correct principles, Jiu-jitsu is one of the few martial arts where the practitioner can control the amount of damage they inflict on an attacker. Perth Martial Arts Academy will teach you many ways to defend against an attack, control and restrain an attacker when required, and if necessary finish the confrontation.
